J Johnstone Engineering recently fabricated and installed structural steel A-frames with a ridge beam for a residential property in our home town of Silloth, Cumbria.
The steelwork formed part of the roof structure for the property and included two galvanised A-frames connected by a steel ridge beam.
The project required accurate fabrication and installation to ensure the structural framework aligned correctly with the building structure.
Double A-Frame Roof Structure
The main structural elements of the project were two steel A-frames positioned within the building to support the roof structure.
A steel ridge beam was installed between the frames, connecting the two structures and providing stability across the roof span.
A-frame structures are commonly used in residential construction where strong roof support is required while maintaining open internal spaces.
Box Section Cross Member
One of the A-frames incorporated a box section cross bar, providing additional support within the frame and helping distribute structural loads through the steelwork.
Incorporating cross members within structural frames can improve stability and ensure the steel framework performs correctly once the roof structure is installed.
Galvanised Steel Finish
The A-frames and ridge beam were supplied with a galvanised finish, providing long-term protection against corrosion.
Galvanising is commonly used for structural steel where durability and longevity are required, particularly in coastal locations such as Silloth.
Fabricated in Our Silloth Workshop
All steel components for the project were fabricated in-house at our workshop in Silloth before being delivered to site.
Producing the steelwork internally allows us to ensure each component is manufactured accurately before installation.
Installation in Silloth
Once fabrication was complete, the steel framework was delivered to the site in Silloth, where it was installed by our experienced on-site fitting team.
Careful positioning of the frames and ridge beam ensured the structure aligned correctly with the building and roof layout.
