J Johnstone Engineering recently fabricated and installed a set of bespoke wall-top railings and gates at a property in Glenridding, in the Lake District.
The project involved producing a series of railings designed to complement the surrounding landscape while providing security and definition to the property boundary.
Taking inspiration from traditional estate fencing, the finished railings combine a classic appearance with durable modern finishing.
Traditional Estate Style Design
The railings were designed in a two-bar estate style, giving the installation a clean and traditional appearance suited to the Lake District setting.
Estate-style railings are often chosen for rural and countryside properties as they provide a strong boundary feature without appearing overly heavy or decorative.
Mounted along the top of a stone wall, the railings provide both security and a subtle architectural detail that blends well with the surrounding stonework.
Bespoke Fabrication and Installation
All railings and gates were designed, fabricated and installed by our team.
The project included:
- 12 railing panels, each measuring approximately 1500mm in length
- Three matching gates, fabricated in the same estate-style design
Each panel was manufactured to ensure a consistent appearance across the entire installation while fitting accurately to the wall layout.
Galvanised and Powder Coated Finish
To ensure long-term durability in the exposed Lake District environment, the railings and gates were hot dip galvanised before being finished with a matt black powder coating.
This finishing process provides excellent corrosion resistance while maintaining the traditional appearance associated with estate-style fencing.
Fabricated at Our Cumbria Workshop
All railings and gates were fabricated at our family-run workshop in Silloth, Cumbria, before being transported to Glenridding for installation.
Once on site, our team fitted the panels and gates along the wall, ensuring correct alignment and a clean finished appearance.
