J Johnstone Engineering recently fabricated and installed raised patio railings at a property in Keswick in the Lake District.
The project involved producing a safety railing around a raised patio area, helping create a secure outdoor space while maintaining as much usable area as possible.
The property was being prepared as a holiday let / Airbnb, making it important to ensure the patio area was both safe and visually tidy for guests.
Railings for Raised Patio Area
The patio area sat above the surrounding ground level, meaning a safety railing was required along the edge.
Our team fabricated a steel railing system designed specifically for the layout of the raised patio, ensuring it followed the boundary while still maintaining open views from the seating area.
Raised patio railings are often used on properties where outdoor areas are positioned above ground level, providing both protection and a clear boundary.
Face Fixed to Maximise Patio Space
To maximise the usable space on the patio itself, the railing posts were bolted down the face of the wall rather than fixed on top of the patio surface.
This approach allowed the full width of the patio to remain available for seating and outdoor furniture, which is particularly important for properties used as holiday accommodation.
It also creates a clean visual line along the outside edge of the patio.
Fabricated in Our Cumbria Workshop
All railings for the project were fabricated in-house at our workshop in Silloth, Cumbria, before being delivered to the property in Keswick.
Producing the steelwork in our workshop allows us to ensure accurate fabrication and a consistent finish before installation.
Galvanised Finish for Outdoor Durability
The railing system was hot dip galvanised, providing long-term protection against corrosion.
This finish is particularly well suited for outdoor installations in areas such as the Lake District, where railings are exposed to changing weather conditions throughout the year.
