Steel Mezzanine Floor Fabrication and Installation in Cumbria

J Johnstone Engineering recently fabricated and installed a large steel mezzanine floor for a commercial premises in Cumbria.

The mezzanine structure was designed to create additional usable floor space within the building, allowing the client to maximise the available area while maintaining a practical layout for storage and operations.

Mezzanine Floor Structure

The mezzanine floor measured approximately 20 metres long, 6 metres wide and 3.5 metres high, creating a substantial additional floor area within the building.

Steel mezzanine floors are commonly used in industrial and commercial environments where additional storage or workspace is required without extending the building footprint.

The structure was designed to provide a strong and stable platform capable of supporting the required loads while integrating with the layout of the building.

Staircase Access at Both Ends

Access to the mezzanine floor was provided by two steel staircases, positioned at either end of the structure.

Providing stair access at both ends allows safe and convenient movement between the ground floor and mezzanine level while improving overall accessibility within the building.

The staircases were fabricated as part of the steel structure before being installed on site by our fitting team.

Removable Handrails for Loading Access

The front section of the mezzanine floor was fitted with removable handrails, allowing materials and equipment to be safely loaded onto the mezzanine level when required.

This feature provides flexibility for loading operations while ensuring that appropriate safety protection is in place during normal use.

The handrails were fabricated to a height of 1100mm, providing compliant edge protection along the mezzanine platform.

Fabricated In-House and Installed by Our Team

All steel components for the mezzanine floor were fabricated in-house at our workshop in Silloth, Cumbria before being delivered to site for installation.

The full structure, including staircases and handrails, was then installed by our experienced on-site fitting team.

Producing the steelwork internally allows us to maintain strict quality control and ensure the structure is manufactured accurately before installation.
