Structural Steel Framework for Bespoke Keswick Renovation in the Lake District

J Johnstone Engineering recently fabricated and installed a range of structural steelwork and bespoke fabricated frames for a residential project in Keswick, in the Lake District.

The project involved the supply and staged installation of several structural elements including:

• Two wall top structural frames
• Two half frames designed to support roof glazing
• A galvanised corner window frame with extended flanges
• Structural beams and ridge beam installation

All steelwork was fabricated in-house and installed by our experienced site team throughout various stages of the build.

Structural Wall Top Frames and Roof Support Steelwork

A major part of the project involved the installation of two large structural wall top frames forming part of the main roof support structure.

The steelwork was designed to create open internal spaces while supporting the roof layout and surrounding building elements.

In addition to the main frames, two half frames were installed to form the structural support around roof glazing areas, allowing natural light to be incorporated into the design while maintaining the strength of the roof structure.

The exposed steelwork creates a striking architectural appearance during construction while forming the structural backbone of the finished property.

Bespoke Galvanised Corner Window Frame

One of the more specialised elements of the project was the fabrication and installation of a bespoke galvanised corner window support frame.

The frame was manufactured with extended flanges designed to carry the external leaf blockwork around the corner glazing detail.

This type of steelwork is often required where large glazed openings or corner windows are incorporated into modern residential projects, particularly where minimal visible support is desired.

The galvanised finish provides long-term protection while allowing the steelwork to remain durable throughout the construction process.

Structural Beams and Ridge Beam Installation

Alongside the fabricated frames, our team also supplied and installed a number of structural beams and ridge beam sections as part of the wider roof and structural layout.

Careful coordination throughout the installation stages ensured the steelwork integrated accurately with the masonry, roof structure and glazing elements as construction progressed.

Fabricated and Installed by Our Team

All steelwork for the project was fabricated at our workshop in Silloth, Cumbria, before being delivered and installed on site in Keswick by our own fitting team.

Undertaking both fabrication and installation allows us to maintain quality control throughout the project while ensuring the steelwork fits accurately during each stage of the build.
