J Johnstone Engineering recently fabricated and installed structural steelwork for a new build home in Sunderland, near Bothel in Cumbria, positioned to take advantage of impressive views across the surrounding Lake District hills.
The project involved the fabrication and installation of a structural steel A-frame, forming the main support for the roof structure while allowing the property to incorporate large glazed openings and open internal spaces.
The work was carried out for a long-standing client builder, continuing a working relationship developed across multiple projects throughout Cumbria.
Structural Steel A-Frame for Modern New Build
The primary steelwork for the project consisted of an A-frame structure fabricated in our workshop and delivered to site ready for installation.
Steel A-frames are commonly used in modern residential construction as they provide strong structural support while allowing designers to introduce large glass elevations and open interior layouts.
Positioned on an elevated site, the structure allows the property to make the most of the surrounding landscape and views across the Lake District hills.
Fabricated in Our Cumbria Workshop
All steelwork for the project was fabricated in-house at our family-run workshop in Silloth, Cumbria.
Producing the steelwork internally allows our team to ensure each component is manufactured accurately before being delivered to site.
Once completed, the A-frame structure was transported to Sunderland where our team carried out the installation.
Delivered and Installed by Our Team
After delivery to the site, the steelwork was installed by our site team, ensuring the structure was positioned correctly and secured in line with the structural engineer’s design.
Working closely with the builder on site helps ensure the steel framework integrates smoothly with the rest of the construction process.
